Questions and Answers: Placing A Pretty Crown

Are you worrying night and day about the upcoming dental crown visit you have scheduled? What seems to be the problem? Have you been wondering what it’s going to look like, whether it will blend with your smile (or stick out like a sore thumb), and what type of material we use? Are you curious about how we design the crown and if it will look like a real tooth or not? Let’s answer some of your questions (they are likely similar to those we frequently receive), so you gain the confidence you need.

Q&A: Crowns

Question: How is a dental crown made? Is it a pre-fabricated prosthetic tooth that you will try to match to my smile or is it custom made?

Answer: Crowns are fully customized based on the way your smile looks, its dimensions, and the shade of your natural teeth. We will gather all required information, which we will provide to a master ceramicist who will create the crown we will place.

Question: What if the crown isn’t perfect when you receive it? Will I have to just wear something that is almost blended with my smile?

Answer: Not a chance! We can make last-minute tweaks and adjustments to your dental crown to ensure not only that it looks beautiful with your smile but also that it is an accurate fit with your bite for effective, comfortable, long-term wear.

Question: How do you make sure my smile still looks like my own natural smile (or that it looks better after you fix the damage) when you place a crown?

Answer: For teeth that are fully or partially visible (even for back teeth), we offer a variety of materials that will look like real tooth tissue (including porcelain or zirconia).
