Keep Your Little One’s Smile White, Bright, and Healthy
At Dental Impressions, we love to treat kids of all ages. As mothers ourselves, we really know how to keep kids comfortable during treatment. We are also passionate about laying the foundation for good dental health to last a lifetime.
What to Expect from Pediatric Dental Care
Your child’s first dental visit will include us getting to know each other, and allowing them to get used to the office. During the first or second visit, we will begin routine cleanings and exams. Our hygienists will remove plaque and tartar from your child’s teeth, and Dr. Foust will check their dental development. We will also provide fluoride supplements on a regular basis. Fluoride is an important mineral that helps to strengthen dental enamel and prevent decay. Although many foods and most city water supplies contain fluoride, it is usually not enough for optimal dental health.
We can also apply dental sealants to your child’s first molars to help prevent decay. Sealants are thin plastic coatings painted onto the top surfaces of the teeth, forming a barrier between the tooth and sugar, food particles, plaque, and oral bacteria that can lead to decay. Although sealants and fluoride supplements are typically pediatric procedures, adults can sometimes benefit from these treatments as well.
The Importance of Early Dental Care
Although baby teeth will eventually fall out, they still play an important role in your child’s future dental health. Baby teeth serve as placeholders for adult teeth. Therefore, if your child loses teeth due to decay or other damage, it could affect the alignment of their adult smile. Additionally, dental decay is a repetitive cycle, so is important to establish good dental health now. That way your child can retain a beautiful smile for a lifetime.
When Should You Schedule Your Child’s First Visit?
It is vital to begin dental care as early as possible since baby teeth are just as susceptible to decay as permanent teeth. You should bring your child in no more than six months after their first baby tooth erupts. After that, your little one should come in every six months for a routine cleaning and exam. To schedule a consultation for your child, call Dental Impressions at (515) 965-0230.
