If you deal with the public, you have probably addressed some crazy questions. Dentists hear some unusual questions from their patients, as well. Remember, no matter how crazy your request, Dr. Foust is here to help you!
The Chicago Dental Society surveyed more than 300 members to discover some of the strangest requests people ask about their mouths.
“I need an emergency cleaning. I’m going to my high school reunion and I need a bright, white smile to face my old boyfriend.”
If you’d like a brighter smile for a special occasion or because you want to look younger and more attractive, ask Dr. Foust about cosmetic teeth whitening. Cosmetic procedures can make your teeth whiter, straighter, and more beautiful, while improving your confidence and self-esteem.
“I just broke off my engagement. Can you put the diamond in my tooth?”
Placing a jewel into tooth enamel is a trend that Dr. Foust does not recommend. A bejeweled tooth can bedifficult to clean and contribute to dental problems, like tooth decay and sensitivity.
“Pull all my teeth, and just give me dentures.”
You might be surprised at the power of modern restorative dentistry. Dr. Foust can restore severely damaged teeth and gums, so you can enjoy a beautiful, comfortably functioning, completely healthy smile. However, if time has taken a toll on your natural teeth and you’re considering dentures, Dr. Foust may recommend dental implants. An alternative to dentures, dental implants are secured to the jaw just like natural teeth. A few implants can secure a denture, so you’ll never have to worry about a poor fit, looseness, or slipping.
“I will pay your hygienist to floss my teeth at work every day.”
It’s important to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss once a day. Brush in the morning, before you eat breakfast, then at bedtime, at least one hour after eating dinner. Flossing is best done before bed, as well. If you want to floss at work, we can show you simple tips for easy flossing — you don’t need us to do it for you.
“Can you extract my tooth without anesthesia?”
We can, but you won’t like it. Anesthesia is used to relax your body and numb the area so you won’t feel any pain during your procedure. This will make you less scared the next time you come back to the dentist.
Dr. Foust encourages you to ask her questions and share your concerns. No matter what your request is, we will discuss it with you and explain everything you need to know about your mouth and your health.
