Dental Bonding: Step by Step

Is your smile pleasing in appearance aside from some minor concerns? Perhaps you feel disappointed by small chips in your teeth. Or, maybe you imagine your smile would look dramatically improved if only you could close the gaps between your teeth but you are wholly uninterested in braces, so you assume you will just have to deal with the way your smile currently looks. Fortunately, we offer dental bonding to address mild imperfections, permitting you to feel wonderful about the way you look. Not sure what this entails but you feel excited already? Learn more about bonding steps for a clearer understanding of what to expect:

Step One

We will meet with you to discuss your smile goals. We may suggest dental bonding to improve one or more of the following:

  • We can fill gaps between teeth for a uniform smile
  • We may replace missing tissue from a tooth chip
  • Bonding may cover problem areas like minor cracks or stains
  • We may lengthen the appearance of your tooth to improve smile uniformity if your tooth looks significantly shorter than surrounding teeth

Step Two

We will color-match composite – a synthetic acrylic-resin material also used in tooth-colored fillings – to the shade of your surrounding tooth, so the result is natural-looking.

Step Three

We will apply the composite to the target site in layers and then shape the material according to your particular needs. We may sculpt the composite into a particular shape if we are replacing missing tooth tissue. We may also fill an opening or lay the composite flat over your tooth to camouflage problems like cracks.

Step Four

We will set the composite with a special curing light so it hardens and remains in place.

Step Five

We will polish your entire tooth, including the bonded area, to give it a natural luster and to ensure a beautiful, believable finish.
