Porcelain Veneer Placement: What To Expect

Choosing porcelain veneers to achieve a beautifully transformed smile is something that can truly improve your confidence. Veneers provide a varied, comprehensive offering of advantages, as well as long-term wear. However, just because you have settled on the cosmetic choice best suited to your needs does not mean you’re quite sure what to expect. We invite you to become more familiar with the process of receiving your veneers, so you may continue to feel just as exhilarated about your decision as you did when you learned that you could accomplish a smile makeover.

Explaining Your Preferences

Before we begin to plan the way your veneers will look, we will need to have a conversation with you about your smile. It is important that you contribute to the changes because we want your smile to reflect your preferences – not our own.

Planning and Prepping Your Teeth

We may or may not need to “prepare” your teeth. A porcelain veneer is a ceramic casing that we place on the part of your tooth that is visible when you smile. Some patients may require the removal of a miniscule portion of enamel (the outer layer of your tooth) to make room for a wonderful fit. Other patients (particularly those who like their tooth size and shape or who suffer from minimal cosmetic damage) may not require any prep work.

Once your teeth are ready for veneers, we will take impressions of your smile. An impression is a mold of your teeth that presents the individual who crafts your veneers with “blueprints” of your smile. Your porcelain veneers will be custom-designed by a highly skilled ceramicist who will pay close attention to your preferences.

Veneer Application

You will visit us for a second appointment, during which time we will place your veneers. Using a special bonding procedure, we will permanently affix the veneers to the front portion of your teeth, resulting in a gorgeous new smile.
