3 Questions To Ask About Fillings

When we suggest you schedule a dental filling because you have a cavity that requires care, you may not feel comfortable setting up that visit right away. We understand! However, because time is of the essence with a progressive issue like tooth decay, the sooner you come in for your filling, the better. To speed up the process, make sure you ask your questions right away, so you feel comfortable regarding your upcoming procedure.

Question #1: Which Type Of Filling Do I Need?

We offer both tooth-colored fillings and amalgam dental fillings at our practice. When you learn that you are suffering from tooth decay, feel free to ask about the difference between these two restorative options and which one is best suited to your tooth. Consider the fact that the tooth-colored option is typically best for visible teeth, while the more budget-friendly metal option is best for back, less visible teeth. However, there are multiple factors that go into the final decision.

Question #2: How Can I Ensure I Feel Comfortable?

Remember that we prioritize your comfort above all else. To make sure you feel comfortable throughout your dental filling visits, we use a local anesthetic – your tooth and the tissue nearby will all feel completely numb. You may also wish to bring along things that help you feel calm (such as an MP3 player and relaxing playlist).

Question #3: What If My Cavity Is Quite Large?

Have you been suffering from a cavity for some time, so you don’t know if you will still qualify to receive a dental filling? Don’t worry – we understand that a variety of experiences cause patients to procrastinate scheduling their restorative care. It is possible that you may no longer qualify as a candidate for a filling. However, we offer dental crowns to address larger cavities, if necessary.
