Dental Hygiene: Too Much Of A Good Thing?

If you’re getting into the bathroom and going through your dental hygiene as we suggest for healthy smiles, then you’re doing it at least twice daily. Once, you’ll brush and floss. Once, you’ll just brush. It’s an easy system! So, how might you be going overboard and, in an effort to clean your smile, actually end up causing some harm along the way? Let’s consider some instances in which your approach may be too much of a good thing!

Too Much Toothpaste

If you think that loading up your toothbrush with toothpaste during dental hygiene sessions is going to work wonders, think again! It’s too much. You’ll waste it, it won’t help, and it can make brushing more difficult. Dab on a pea-size serving (it’s true) and brush!

Too Hard, Too Long, Too Much Brushing

If you’re brushing with extra force, if you’re brushing for longer than two minutes per session, and if you’re brushing more than a few times a day, you’re going overboard. Your intentions are pure, of course! However, your smile doesn’t care about your intentions. It just knows that its being overly cleansed, which can end up yielding damage.

Too Much Teeth Whitening

Yep, you’re right. This isn’t part of your dental hygiene. However, you may include whitening strips or other products (which we do not suggest, as seeing us for cosmetic care is much safer and more effective). If you do this in an effort to get your smile to look whiter and, as a result, seem cleaner, be careful. One application can cause dehydrated teeth and damage. Repeated use can lead to serious problems.
