If you answered “yes,” then suggest they apply to be a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council for 2019. MYC members are the voice for Ankeny teens when talking with City Council members, and they work with Ankeny civic leaders to provide opportunities in a variety of areas throughout the year. This might include activities like a teen “Speak Out” event, or school symposiums. The Mayor’s Youth Council also participates in the Mayor’s Bike Ride and a Halloween event.
What Are The Qualifications for Applying?
Teens should be interested in learning more about the civic process, and serving as role models for other young people. Applicants should be residents of Ankeny, entering at least the 9th grade at an Ankeny high school. Council members are expected to attend most meetings, and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in school. Applicants should be willing to support the MYC’s goals and activities, and be willing to participate and offer ideas at meetings.
When Does The Application Process Open?
Applications can be submitted beginning March 1st, until May. There is an or available through the Parks and Recreation office. Applications are completed in the spring, for a term that begins the following school year.
