As warm weather approaches, you’re more likely to find yourself reaching for something cool and refreshing to drink, seeking out something to hydrate you, carrying around a beverage that tastes oh-so-yummy at a cookout, and more. While it’s easy to get lost in your particular event or activity and focus on the fact that you’re plain old thirsty, it’s very important to step back for a moment, consider what you’re sipping, and to ask yourself whether it’s actually safe for your smile health. You will find that generally speaking, if it isn’t water, it’s not good for your smile.
Water: Always Safe
Water is neutral and, as long as it’s just water without any other ingredients, it is always safe and actually good for your smile health. Drink up!
Milk: Fairly Safe
While we certainly don’t imagine you’re guzzling a bottle of milk after strenuous exercise, we know that serious milk drinkers make this beverage part of their day! So, if you’re filling up a glass, rest assured that though it does contain a bit of natural sugar, it’s pretty safe for your smile. (However, do not drink it right before bed. Only water before you sleep!).
Soda: Never Safe
Nope, it’s never safe. Not if it contains sugar, doesn’t contain sugar, contains a sugar alternative, etc. Even without sugar, it’s acidic. So, drink water after you drink this carbonated beverage if you cannot help but indulge!
Juice: Never Safe
Juice is full of natural sugars and it’s very acidic. It’s not good for your smile health! Again, drinking water after will help cleanse your smile. Or, consider eating fresh fruit with a meal instead to limit the effects of its acidity.
Sports Drinks: Never Safe
These are very acidic! They may seem like a better choice than water but generally speaking, when you need hydration, water is good!
