Dental Bonding or Porcelain Veneers?

A number of factors can impact the beauty of our teeth. They can become stained, damaged, or even be crooked or crowded. However, there are cosmetic solutions available to restore the function and appearance of the teeth. We offer two such options with dental bonding and porcelain veneers. Which cosmetic treatment will best improve your smile?

Dental Bonding

With dental bonding, we restore missing tooth structure with a composite resin. This is actually the same material used for our white fillings. We first etch the tooth (so the material better attaches to the tooth) and remove the presence of any decay. We then add the bonding material in multiple layers, sculpting and molding the tooth as we cure it under a light. The entire procedure can be completed in a single visit and is used to repair teeth, mask permanent stains, and even close gaps between teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin wafers of porcelain that are placed on the front of the tooth. The veneers look natural and are custom-made using porcelain. The process begins with the doctor removing the thin layer of enamel from the teeth. We then take impressions, which will be used in the fabrication of the restoration. Once complete, we will make sure they fit properly and adhere them to the teeth using a bonding agent. Veneers can mask discoloration, correct the appearance of the misalignment, close gaps between teeth, and repair misshapen or damaged teeth.

Which Option Will Work Best for My Smile?

Dental bonding can be completed in one visit and is often considered a more cost-effective option. However, veneers offer a much more lifelike appearance. We will need to assess the cause and extent of your smile issues before we decide which restoration will best improve the esthetics of your smile.
