Warm Weather Reminders For Kids’ Oral Health

When the weather heats up, your children get very excited about the long, sunny days ahead! Their minds, of course, are full of the joyous promises of swimming, summery foods, parties, and more! While we hope you and your family have an amazing time together during the summer months, we also offer a word of warning: Some simple reminders will help you keep your kids’ oral health in good shape (and that goes for yours, too!).

Reminder: Layer On That Sunscreen

Don’t leave sunscreen off the list, even if you’re planning on spending time in the shade, it’s an overcast day, or you’re not out during peak sun hours. UV rays can still take their toll. To protect yourself from oral health complications (such as those related to lip and oral cancers), we encourage you to use sunscreen (and lip treatment that includes SPF, as well).

Reminder: Watch Out For Hidden Sugars And Acids

You might think pouring out a glass of summery iced tea or lemonade is a wonderful refreshing way to relax and keep cool. While it’s definitely enjoyable, remember that most beverages are acidic (and added sugar packs an additional problematic punch). Rinse after such beverages or simply stick with water, so oral health steers clear of issues like decay.

Reminder: It’s A Good Time To Schedule Visits

Nailing down out your summer plans? Remember to make time to keep your kids’ oral health safe (and mom and dad’s, too) by planning out any necessary trips to the dentist. When the kids are out of classes, it makes a quick trip in for restorative care, dental cleanings, and checkups a breeze.
